Spaceline Cable & Rod Systems

How much weight can the Spaceline Cable System hold?

There are many factors that determine the weight capacity of the Cable and Rod Systems. For starters, one of the most important considerations is the ceiling. What is this made from and how much support can the ceiling offer? It is important to state that Rod and Cable Systems are not suitable for suspended ceiling, and the ceiling must offer more support in the form of a beam (timber or metal) if it is plasterboard.

As far as the cable itself, the strength is immense, so providing maximum support in the suspension and connection point within the ceiling is most important. The minimum breaking load per cable is 145kg (1.42kN).
Other factors to consider are:
• The quantity of shelves and what they are made from.
• How many other display items (rod/cubes/signs etc.) and size.
• What product will be on display, size and weight of products.
• How far apart the cables will be placed from one another.
• How long the lengths of cables are (floor to ceiling).

As you can see, it is complicated to provide an exact figure as to how much weight can be held by the system. While the cable itself can hold a huge amount of weight, it is other factors associated with the installation that also play a part. If anything, Cable and Rod Systems should be installed with consideration to the design layout and configuration of the installation area. Ceilings and overhead structures should be well prepared to take on any weight estimated within the display as well as any other factors, such as someone leaning on the display or heavier items being placed on there from time to time.

Upon installation, Cable and Rod Systems should be tightened to avoid as much wobble and movement as possible. There will always be some movement, but it can be minimised by ensuring the cable is cut to the right size, and by tensioning the system at the bottom using the Floor Connector.
There are many components within the Cable range and various display configurations can be achieved. In order for the display to work as required, the best suited components should be used for the application intended.

Components range from Shelf Grips that work with glass, acrylic and timber, Panel Grips, Hang Rail Holders and the cable can be mounted floor to ceiling, on the wall or a combination of wall, floor and ceiling mounting.
Cable and Rod Systems provide the flexibility to create so many variations of display, and allow the ability to adjust and move components as required, to adapt to ever changing needs of product merchandising and display.
